One of the things I came across whilst trying to "self-medicate" my own diagnostics through Google was Kinesiology. I never wanted to be prescribed drugs because to me that actually meant I had a mental sickness...so I took it upon myself to investigate natural alternatives when I was introduced to the word "Kinesiology"... First of all, I didn't know how to pronounce it, so as you can imagine I had no idea what it was and quite frankly it scared me. So I have asked an expert to explain what Kinesiology is and why anyone with depression and anxiety should try it... and you know what? I wish I tried this earlier...
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology (kin-easy-ology) is an internationally recognized and non-invasive healing process that combines Western techniques and the Eastern wisdom to tap into an individual’s subconscious mind to help individuals to reduce stress, depression, anxiety and pain, improve performance in work, learning, sport, generate balance and harmony in life and relationships, and promote health and well-being.
This is achieved by applying a muscle testing technique, which is a biofeedback system that allows the kinesiologist to tap into the client’s subconscious mind to uncover the underlying issues of a problem and what processes need to take place for the person move past the issues and achieve his/her goal. ). The best thing about kinesiology is that the focus will always be on identifying the underlying issues of a problem instead of treating the symptoms, something that other modalities tend to overlook creating a need for the client to have ongoing sessions for long periods of time with limited results. The imbalances can be mental, emotional, physical/structural, biochemical (hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiency or excess, pollution, allergies, etc.) and/or spiritual.
Why should people with depression and anxiety try Kinesiology?
Depression, anxiety, pain, lack of motivation and energy are caused by energy blocks in our meridian system (energy flow). Our muscles and cells have memory and everything we have experienced in our lives to date is stored in both along with the emotions and stresses experienced in each event. Our bodies have the wisdom to heal themselves and work continuously to maintain optimal health and equilibrium, however certain stressors create blocks to our natural healing capacity and help is needed to restore balance. Kinesiology is a modality that provides the help needed to achieve that.
What happens in a kinesiology appointment?
The first session with a new client is split into 2 parts:
The client fills out an intake questionnaire prior to the session and a short discussion takes place to help the client understand where the client is at, where he/she comes from and to establish the goal for the session.
The second part of the session is dedicated to the hands-on work. The kinesiologist clears sabotage programs, corrects neurological disorganisation, investigates what’s causing the issues and what corrections need to be performed in order to set the client free from the root of the problem(s). The client has the choice to sit or lie down on a massage table and works with the kinesiology though the processes. In some instances an age recession is required to take the client back to when the issue first became a problem and to cut ties with the related events. By doing that, the client can then look forward with the required equilibrium in his/her mind, body and spirit to achieve the goal worked on the session. At the end of the session, the client finds out if home re-enforcement is needed to maintain the balance and what that entails and if a follow up session is needed and when to continue working on that goal.
How many sessions does it take to break through depression?
Kinesiology is individual to the client’s problems, blocks and life experiences, making every session unique. The focus is on finding and alleviating the causes behind the symptoms and once the causes are identified through muscle testing, different processes are used to remove the related stresses and the body and mind are free to heal. Some people break through depression after one session, some require a few more sessions. At the end of a session, the kinesiologist identifies through muscle testing if a follow up session is needed and when and sessions are booked accordingly. I always recommend a commitment of at least 3 sessions to maximize the results. Based on my clinical experience, some clients need some time after the first session for integration and to apply some changes or introduce new habits or foods to their diet to support the healing process taking a little longer to reduce the depression significantly or completely.
What is the success rate of using Kinesiology?
It depends entirely on the level of commitment of each individual. Kinesiology can help a person achieve any goal, however the kinesiologist is a mere facilitator of the healing process identifying what the problems are and what needs to be done to clear the blocks. Success is achieved when a client is 100% committed to work through the processes, to implement the required changes and to continue having sessions when needed.
Do you have any inspiring clients/stories you could share?
A few years ago I attracted a client that was suffering from severe depression (10 out of 10) and stress (7 out of 10). Her goal was to overcome depression and improve her relationship with her in-laws (the source of her stress). Her energy level at the start of the session was 1 out of 10. During that session we uncovered why she was in such state and applied the necessary corrections. By the end of it she was one smiley lady, looking and feeling relaxed, the depression and stress reduced to 0 and her energy level increased to 9. Both of us were happy with the effects of the session and off she went. A week later a friend of hers came to see me for similar reasons and she shared what happened to my client the week after her session with me: she described her feeling as being on cloud 9 and for this reason she spoke with her GP and decided to drop the anti-depressants. Additionally, she shared a meal with her mother in law and felt emotionally balanced throughout her lunch, something that had never happened before. This client called me again 3 years later to book an appointment when she felt something was starting to make her feel down, which means for 3 whole years she was free from depression and when she had a small indication that it could be coming back she contacted me to work through the new issue behind that feeling to maintain the balance she got accustomed to. Depression became a feeling from the past, thanks to kinesiology and her commitment.
